9:30       9:30
9:40   Learning Objectives:
In this workshop, participants will:

1. Develop an understanding of the relationship between creativity and Lean and how to use both in coaching
2. Learn about and practice elements of creativity such as ‘and’ thinking, divergent thinking and synthesis.
3. Understand the elements of service excellence as they apply to all businesses (service and manufacturing)
4. Lean about and practice Karyn’s “Challenge & Nurture” Coaching Approach to turn creative ideas into service excellence through learning-by-doing

Outline:
In the lean community, there has been a strong focus on teaching people how to use lean principles practices and tools to make processes more efficient and effective. However, little emphasis has been placed on how to coach people to generate the new ideas needed to create those better ways to work and the new services and products that will disrupt the market and differentiate companies from their competitors.
In this full day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to gain insights from Karyn’s upcoming, new book, How to Coach for Creativity and Service Excellence. They will spend the morning focusing on creativity, and how to coach for it! They will learn the definition of creativity, and practice elements of creativity such as ‘and’ thinking, divergent thinking and synthesis.
After lunch, participants will learn about Karyn’s “Challenge & Nurture” coaching approach. They’ll then combine their learning about creativity and coaching with hands-on practice applying The Toyota Way to Service Excellence 4Ps and 17 Principles in a practical learning experience (simulation).
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to coach people both to have creative ideas and turn them into the peak service experiences all customers want, through lean! As well, before they leave the workshop, participants will create a written ‘Next Steps’ Action Plan of what the first steps they will take to put their learning into practice in their organization.

Please note:
This workshop is suitable for people in both service organizations and manufacturing companies.

9:40   Learning Objectives:
In this workshop, participants will:

Get familiar with the Questions of the Lean Transformation Framework:

1. What is the purpose of the change–what true north and value are we providing, or simply: what problem are we trying to solve?
2. How are we improving the actual work?
3. How are we building capability?
4. What leadership behaviors and management systems are required to support this new way of working?
5. What basic thinking, mindset, or assumptions comprise the existing culture, and are driving this transformation?
Fundamentally, the process of successful lean transformation rests on applying PDCA cycles of experimentation (the art and craft of science) at every level, everywhere, all the time. Being situational means that every story is going to be specific and different (each situation has a different aim or purpose). Being grounded in a common set of principles yet situational in application provides rich opportunity for the development of truly profound wisdom. Lean thinking and practice also propose a specific point of view around each question. We believe that there are certain approaches to answering each of the 5 questions that will yield greater success in your lean journey.

Outline:
We are all trying to transform. That's what lean thinking and practice are all about: challenging us to reflect deeply on how we can improve this situation, improve my organization, or improve myself (and of course, all three). Whatever your role in the organization, whether you are improving one operator's work at the gemba or trying to transform an entire organization, this is tough work.

Observing efforts in the community over many years, we have learned that successful transformation calls for a situational approach that is based on innovating key dimensions of any organization through addressing a series of questions.

These questions are fractal—meaning that the same questions apply whether working at the macro enterprise level or the level of individual responsibility as you dive progressively deeper into each dimension.
